I am amazed at how many Christians are trapped in the bondage of addiction, although I really should not be. I’ve said many times that “if it were not for the grace of God I could be dead, imprisoned, institutionalized or worse, still in my addiction”. That is no exaggeration. I tried everything to stop and I could not.
25 years ago I was listening to a tape by Bill Gillham (with a hangover) as he taught on Romans 6. He quoted Rom. 6:1, 2 and said, “You’re dead to sin. You don’t feel like it, you don’t act like it and you don’t even look like it. You think that is just what God says about you. You think that is just how God sees you. But what God says is truth and what God sees is reality. You are dead to sin.” The lights came on for me and I knew I was free from addiction. IT TOOK A MIRACLE! That miracle took place 2000 years ago when I was crucified with Christ and now I no longer live, but Christ lives in me (Gal. 2:20). When I saw it and believed it and knew the old me was dead and Christ was my life and I was dead to sin and freed from it, I was really and totally free. That is the basis of my ministry and my message and the truth that sets you free from addiction.
I am busier and more excited and passionate about this ministry to which God has called me than I’ve ever been. Vernon Terrell and I are doing five webinars a year and we are recording them and they will be able to be downloaded for free. The Helping Others Overcome Addictions Webinar will begin Tuesday, October 8. You can register for it at https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/118376666. I plan to publish three eBooks based on the three webinars. Each book will have a color image of each of the PowerPoint slides and each slide will have my teaching notes. There are over 300 slides for the Advanced Webinar and the Helping Others Webinar, and the Basic Webinar has over 200 slides.
I have also started two other books. One is God’s Answer for Addiction, which I have always wanted to do. The other will be a memoir (I have lived 76 years) and I want to share all my struggles and failures and descent into hell, but mainly to show how liberating and complete God’s answer is that has already been provided.
Although this has been the worst year for our support God has always taken good care of us and continues to do so. In fact August which is usually our worst month has been the best so far this year.
